Make a Personal Gift in Fukuoka: A Handmade Fragrance Gift Box in Hakata

If you are looking for a present for someone special in Fukuoka, TSUTSUMU in Hakata offers a way to make it yourself. Our gift-box experience begins on October 1, 2026. In about 60 minutes, you will make both incense and a scented sachet, choosing fragrance with the recipient in mind and adding your own words to the wooden box.

Start with the person you want to give it to

A friend’s birthday, a thank-you for your family, or a gift for someone starting a new chapter. Thinking about that person may bring small moments to mind: stopping together to notice flowers, a conversation about quiet evenings at home, or a fragrance they once said they liked.

Those memories can help you choose. There is no need to find an impressive explanation for every ingredient. The time you spend wondering what they would enjoy becomes part of the story you can tell when you hand over the gift: ‘I chose this because it reminded me of you.’

Make both incense and a scented sachet

This experience includes both crafts; you do not have to choose between them. Incense is a fragrance to enjoy by lighting it at home, perhaps during a quiet reading break. A scented sachet needs no flame and can accompany everyday life, for example tucked into a bag.

Together, they offer two ways to enjoy a handmade present. Imagine where the recipient might use each one. When burning incense, use a stable, non-combustible holder and dish, and never leave it unattended.

You do not need to know the names of the ingredients

Start by smelling the ingredients and noticing what you enjoy. At TSUTSUMU you can explore fragrances such as sandalwood and frankincense. A scent may feel different from what its name led you to expect, so take time to experience it in person.

If you are unsure about the recipient’s preferences, think about what you already know: do they like fresh scents, or usually avoid strong fragrances? Tell the staff who the gift is for and the impression you have in mind. Beginners can make their gifts with guidance throughout the experience.

Engrave a name or a few words of thanks

Wooden-box engraving is included in the gift experience at no additional charge. You might choose a name, a meaningful date, or a short message that is easier to give in writing than to say aloud.

‘Thank you, always,’ ‘Happy Birthday,’ and ‘Cheering you on’ are starting points for thinking about your message. A name or a date on its own can also feel personal. Discuss the wording and placement with the staff on the day. Your ordinary words may mean more than a formal dedication.

A gift-making experience in Fukuoka you can enjoy on your own

Solo visitors are welcome. The recipient does not need to come with you. You might visit before a friend’s birthday, prepare a family gift before going home, or make a present during a trip to Fukuoka for someone who could not join you.

When you give it to them, share a little about choosing the fragrance. Alongside the finished present, you can give them the story of the time you spent thinking about them.

About 60 minutes to choose, make and package your gift

Allow about 60 minutes to make both items and place them in the gift box. Tools and materials are provided. Thinking of one or two possible engraving messages beforehand can help you enjoy the fragrance-making time without rushing to choose your words.

Follow the guidance given on the day for handling your finished incense and when to begin using it. Allow travel time as well as the workshop time when arranging your next activity.

Price, booking and access

The gift experience costs ¥7,000 per person including tax, incense making, sachet making, the gift box and wooden-box engraving. There is no extra engraving fee. The individual incense and sachet workshops are ¥3,500 each; choose the gift experience when you would like to make both and present them together with engraving.
