Planning an anniversary present for your boyfriend or girlfriend in Fukuoka? From October 1, 2026, TSUTSUMU in Hakata offers a gift-box experience where each person makes both incense and a scented sachet. Spend about 60 minutes making a gift for one another, add an engraved message, and exchange your finished boxes.
Make your partner’s present with your own hands
A first anniversary, a birthday together, or a wedding anniversary can be a reason to set aside time for each other. At the workshop, the person you are making for can sit right beside you. Something you would usually choose for yourself becomes a choice you make with them in mind.
There is no need to compete over who makes the better gift. The reason you chose a fragrance, and the ingredients you hesitated over, can become part of the conversation when you exchange your presents.
Each person makes both items
This is not a plan where one person makes incense and the other makes a sachet. Every participant makes both. When two people join, each can prepare a gift box for their partner and exchange it when finished.
Incense offers a fragrance for time spent at home. A scented sachet can be enjoyed without a flame, for example in an everyday bag. Your gift brings together two different ways to enjoy fragrance.
The price is ¥7,000 per person or ¥14,000 for two, including tax. Each person’s workshop includes the gift box and wooden-box engraving. The ¥7,000 price is per participant, not for a couple sharing one box.
A few questions before choosing a fragrance
Ask your partner whether they prefer fresh or sweet scents, what fragrance they might enjoy while relaxing at home, or whether they remember a scent from somewhere you visited together. You can choose after hearing their answers, or combine what they like with your own impression of them.
Unexpected answers are part of the conversation. Smell ingredients such as sandalwood and frankincense in person and tell each other what you notice. You do not need previous experience; staff can guide you through making your gifts.
Engrave words that mean something to you both
A name, a date or a message can be engraved on the wooden box at no additional charge. Think about which date you want to remember: when you met, your anniversary, or a trip that mattered to you.
‘1st Anniversary,’ ‘Thank you, always,’ a name, or a short phrase only the two of you understand can help you find your words. A long message is not necessary. Discuss the lettering and placement with the staff on the day.
Give the story behind the fragrance, too
When you exchange boxes, explain a little about your choice: ‘I thought you would enjoy this,’ or ‘It reminded me of somewhere we went together.’ If you receive a scent you would not have chosen yourself, ask what made your partner choose it.
Even when you make gifts in the same place on the same day, they can turn out differently. You do not need matching fragrances. Enjoy the thought each person put into choosing something for the other.
A Fukuoka experience that becomes an anniversary present
Allow about 60 minutes to make both items and package them. TSUTSUMU is about a 10-minute walk from Hakata Station, so you can plan the visit around a meal or another outing. Leave time for travel before your next reservation.
Tools and materials are provided. If you would like to prepare anything, think about the words you want to put on the box. Asking ‘What shall we engrave?’ can open a conversation about something you do not usually say aloud.
You do not have to visit on the anniversary itself. Choose a date that works for you both. Follow the guidance given on the day about handling your finished incense and when to use it. Burn it in a suitable non-combustible holder and dish, and never leave a burning stick unattended.
